Welcome to Sociology with Instructor Jennifer Jazayeri!
If your school uses Blackboard, that site will be used rather than this Wiki. If your school does not use Blackboard, this site will be very useful for you! You can find your lecture notes, syllabi, and other important information related to your class.
To start, here are some samples of assignments I use in my classes:
Introduction to Sociology (Soc 1):(click here to be directed to your class home page)
Video Analysis Papers
Discussion Boards
Text used: Essentials of Sociology: A Down to Earth Approach by James Henslin, 8th edition ISBN: 0205676081
Online SOC 1 also uses the MySocLab feature, which is included for free with the new edition of the text.
Introduction to Marriage and Family: (click here to be directed to your class home page)
Reflection papers, in class videos, discussions, and web browsing may be used in this course.
Text used: Marriages, Families, and Intimate Relationships: A Practical Introduction by Williams, Sawyer, and Wahlstrom, 2nd edition. ISBN: 0205521452
Socialization of the Child (Soc 15):
Parent Interviews
Childrens Television Programming
Community Agency Reports
Text used: Child, Family, School, Community: Socialization and Support by Roberta Berns, 8th edition ISBN: 9780495603252
E-book may be available at www.iCHAPTERS.COM
Online/Web classes:
Discussion boards are used weekly, as are videos (from various websites or the video store). To be successful in an online class, the student must be able to follow directions very closely and be self-motivated. In addition to the textbook, there are also "readings" assigned in an online class (in MySocLab), as well as web browsing.
Please note:
Textbooks do not have to be purchased through your campus bookstore. Alternative sites you may browse for competitive pricing include: amazon.com, half.com, bookfinder.com, bigwords.com, or ichapters.com. There are also usually "off-campus" bookstores near colleges that sell the same texts the college bookstores sell. Shop around, you may find a great deal!
If anyone prefers the material in auditory format, Vango Notes can be purchased online and you can listen to your textbook rather than read it!
ATTENTION SOC 1 ONLINE STUDENTS: If you purchase your book off campus, it may not have the access code for MySocLab. Please let me know if you need the articles and I can help you locate a "reader" (small book) that has the same articles posted on MySocLab. (jjazayeri@saddleback.edu)
